Graphic Design Trend: Candy Colors & Rounded Fonts
Using Candy Colors in graphic designs is a fun-filled trend going into 2022. They are used in all types of designs like typography, web design, and illustrations. Professional designers that fully understand color theory use Candy Colors for a number of reasons. One of these reasons is to capture viewers’ attention and it works because of the colors used. This trend brings a youthful vibe that leaves viewers feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Candy Colors are often used in 3D illustrations and character designs.
A typography trend of 2022 are rounded fonts. For a long time, rounded fonts were used in youth advertisements and brought a child-like vibe to anything it was used for. In 2022, it has resurfaced as a fun advertising trend aimed at adults. Rounded fonts can bring excitement as well as drama to the scene. They are bold enough to stand alone and can be a great addition to a graphic, perfect for the advertising industry.
I started my own candy color and rounded font graphic in Adobe Illustrator. I wanted to create a 3D graphic using candy colors with my brand name on the graphic in a rounded font. I first started my graphic by creating a circle with the Ellipse tool. Then I turned this circle into a sphere using the ‘3D and Materials’ in the Effects menu at the top. In the ‘3d and Materials’ menu, I chose the glossy material and a very pink color (HEX #f835a0), following the Candy Color trend. I manipulated the shadow making the sphere look like a lollipop. I then drew a rectangle with the long sides rounded using the pen tool and also transformed this shape into a three-dimensional shape. I placed this shape on top of the lollipop and manipulated the shadow to point down, creating the look of the middle seam of the lollipop. I also created the stem of the lollipop in the same way. I then took this graphic to Adobe Photoshop to finish the rest of the graphic. I began in Photoshop by selecting the lollipop shape, copied it, and pasted it. I then flipped this copied lollipop shape horizontally and put this shape behind the first lollipop. I then recolored the second lollipop to a vibrant purple (HEX #d42dff). The shadow below the lollipop shapes to contribute to the three-dimensional look was made with the Ellipse tool as well. I made the decision to layer a blue two-dimensional rectangle in the back of the graphic to bring it all together. I then placed the rounded font “Synthemesc” from the Adobe fonts saying my brand name “Graphicality”. I then colored it the same as the first lollipop and added a dark purple border around the font and around both lollipops.
