Graphic Design Trend: Frasurbane
Frasurbane is an interesting trend that has been around for longer than you think. The nostalgic trend appeared in the early 90’s and all around as an interior design trend, but in 2022, it’s being brought to the surface of the graphic design world. The word “frasurbane” comes from two separate words; Frasier, the 90’s TV show, and “urbane”. As an interior design trend, Frasurbane was set in the late 80’s - early 90’s in the homes of young adults looking for a sense of maturity. The set of Frasier and his apartment was the peak of this beige/earth toned core. Since it appeared in the 90’s it draws a lot of inspiration from other familiar interior design aesthetics like Art Deco, Biedermeier, and Neoclassical PoMo (Knapp, 2021).
As a graphic design trend, Frasurbane focuses on muted colors, majestic fonts, and consciously placed elements to create a masterpiece. If executed right, Frasurbane can bring a sense of unity and maturity (Cs.rometheme, 2021). Since it’s a new trend of 2022 in the graphic design world, there aren’t many references to go off of so I did my best to translate what I see from Frasurbane interior design to a graphic. I started off by choosing a beige color for the background and then decided on the direction I was taking this graphic. I chose to make it resemble an ad for a fashion campaign to give some functionality to it, this graphic style could also be great for any product advertisement as well. I picked an image from Pexels.com, a site with many different free images to download and use at your own will. I gave the image a rectangle bottom with a round top to give a “frasurbane” shape. I also added a thin-lined oval behind the arch shape to add to the theme I was going for. I chose the Adobe Font “Democratica OT - Bold” for my main word “bellissima” which means “beautiful” in Italian at 170pt. On the top of the graphic is “Lieto di conoscerti” meaning “Nice to meet you” and “ci rincontreremo” meaning “we will meet again” at the bottom. I took a more minimalist approach to this graphic to add to the mature feel that Frasurbane gives.
